Sunday saw Round 2 of our Adult Karting Championship take place. It was the first round back after lockdown and there was some fantastic racing throughout with an incredible 24 drivers within 1 second of the fastest lap.
Sam Slater took the extra point for Pole Position for the second round in a row. He was joined on the front row of the grid by Championship leader Gavin Williams. Billy Cockle and Neil Durrant shared the second row. Our 2015 Junior Champion Marley Joffe was competing in the adult championship for the first time and lined up 5th alongside Billy Thompson. Matt Delahaye had his best round to date making it into the A Final lining up 7th. Morgan Durrant was the last of the 8 drivers to qualify for the final from the heat results a great achievement in his first round of the championship. 9th and 10th on the grid was taken up by the top 2 from the B Final, Sebastian Miller (another great achievement also in his first round of the Championship) and Lee Norris.
Sam converted pole into the lead but had Gavin Williams alongside through the first two corners. Gavin slotted into 2nd right behind Sam with the following 8 karts bumper to bumper. A little bit of contact slowed the chasing pack down, which allowed Sam to open up a small gap. Morgan Durrant was the biggest mover jumping up from 8th into 6th place.
Neil Durrant made a move for 3rd heading through the chicane side by with Billy Cockle. Neil held the inside line into the top corner and was able to take 3rd place. Morgan Durrant was very opportunistic and took advantage of the battling to get into 5th place and then got the run on Billy on the exit of the top corner to move himself up into 4th place.
All this battling allowed Gavin Williams to break away in 2nd and try and close the gap on Sam Slater, but Sam had a big enough lead which he was able to manage perfectly to go on to take the victory. Gavin took a brilliant 2nd Place, with Neil Durrant completing the podium in 3rd. Morgan Durrant took a fantastic 4th from 8th on the grid, with Billy Cockle 5th, Marley Joffe 6th, Billy Thompson 7th, Lee Norris 8th, Matt Delahaye 9th and Sebastian Miller 10th after he unfortunately got stuck in the tyre barriers.
There was a joint fastest lap of the day with both Sam Slater and Lee Norris setting an identical lap of 25.12, however Sam set the fastest lap a couple of races earlier so took the point for the Fastest Lap of the day to complete a perfect score and with it the lead of the Championship!
